Nueces County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas, it has a population of 313,645 as of 2000.  Nueces County is named for the Nueces River, which flows through the county. The area has long been the site of human habitation. Archeological artifacts recovered in the region suggest that the earliest human beings arrived around 6,000 to 8,000 years ago.
